After settling in we began ministry, which was mainly based around a little village about 40 minutes outside of the city. We did children’s programs and taught English to about 40 kids three hours a day, five days a week. We also did house visits to build relationships with the people in the village and share the love of Jesus with them.
In this time, we were witness to several healings, the Lord filling with joy those who had none, two elderly monks giving their lives to the Lord and upwards of 50 children hearing the name of Jesus and experiencing his love for them on a daily basis.
As incredible as this all was, I had a lot of moments where I realized I literally had no idea what I was doing, and a lot of moments where God showed me that I didn’t need to. We are apart of something so much greater than ourselves, it is not our job to ‘convert people’, it’s not our job to know all of the answers and it’s not our job to even know what we’re doing. It is our job to walk forward in obedience and allow God to work.
One of my favorite sayings from lecture phase was: “God does not call the qualified, he qualifies the called”.
To say that the outcome of our ministry and what God will do is determined by how well we “perform” and what we can do, is to place our own human limitations on God, when, in fact, it is in our weakness that he will be glorified.
Realizing this, it has been an honour to be able to say that I have had the privilege of walking in obedience and witnessing HIM work in the lives of the people around me.
